Sitting Is The New Smoking?

Let’s talk about something we hear all the time:  “I sit too much… and I feel guilty about it.”

Whether you’re spending long hours at a desk, managing limited mobility, recovering from an injury or simply looking for a safe way to move your body, here’s the truth we want you to remember.

You don’t have to stop sitting to start moving.

At Chair One Fitness, we’ve built a program that turns your chair into your workout partner because movement should feel fun, achievable and uplifting (and yes… sometimes like a party).

Why Chair Workouts Are Having A Moment

People are craving workouts that are:

  • Low-impact (kind to your joints)
  • Accessible (no standing up, no getting down on the floor, no complicated transitions)
  • Effective (they build strength and elevate your heart rate)
  • FUN! (because if it’s miserable, you won’t do it, right?)

Even fitness media is highlighting how much you can do with a chair, from strength and core work to cardio and balance support (Women’s Health). And we love seeing it because we’ve known for years how powerful seated workouts can be!

The “10-minute win”

If your motivation feels low, try this simple mindset shift:  Don’t aim for perfect. Aim for 10 minutes.  Just ten minutes can give you:

  • A mood boost
  • Less stiffness in your hips and back
  • Better circulation
  • A stronger core and improved posture
  • The confidence to do it again tomorrow

And when your workout is set to music? That feeling of not wanting to work out tends to disappear pretty quickly.

What Makes Chair One Fitness Different?

There are lots of seated movement options out there, but Chair One Fitness is:

  • Dance-inspired and rhythm-driven (so it feels like fun, not like “exercise punishment”)
  • Inclusive with low and high intensity options
  • Supportive for real life bodies, including seniors, mobility aid users, people managing chronic conditions and people rebuilding strength
  • Community focused, because when you feel seen and supported, consistency gets easier.

Safety note: Use a sturdy chair (no wheels), and move within a comfortable range of motion. If you have medical concerns, check with a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program.

Sitting Isn’t The Enemy – Lack of Movement Is

If all you can do today is 10 minutes of movement in your chair, that counts. If you can do more, amazing! Either way, you’re building strength, confidence and momentum – one song at a time. We can help with our online workouts on our On Demand Platform.
